Six Cite Them Right habits, applied automatically
The details that separate a reference list built to the guide from one assembled from memory.
The year lands right after the surname
No period follows the closing parenthesis: Chen, M.R. (2023) 'Title...'. Adding one out of APA habit is the single most common slip a marker catches.
Titles take single quotes, containers take italics
An article or chapter title sits in single quotation marks with sentence case; the journal or book holding it switches to italics and title case.
Et al. waits until the fourth name
Three authors or fewer are spelled out in full and linked with and, never an ampersand. A fourth author collapses the whole list to the first name plus et al.
Initials sit flush against the surname
